Song of the moment: Voice of Truth (Casting Crowns)

Sometimes we get stuck. When we get stuck, we panic, we feel helpless, we feel lost, we feel scared and then we want to give up. Fustration kicks in because we cannot remember how things got so bad in the first place. But we blame ourselves anyway, and so we then begin to think if I got myself in this mess then why can't I get myself out?

And like in the song we start to wish. We wish we had strength like David to fight the giant that stands in front of us. And then we realise that this is more than a wish. It is more than a wish becasue a wish is something that may not actually come true. When we trust in God, these wishes become promises, promises of love and assurance. And these promises are only heard when we truly listen to the voice of truth.

You see a voice can be a very powerful thing. Voices can be haunting, loving, controlling, ordering, loving, hurting, cruel the list can go on. The song describes how other voices can be so loud. Voices that tell us that we are going to fail, that we are too weak, that laugh at us and mock us. These are the things that we hear ever so clearly.

When Elijah went up onto the mountain and was waiting for God, God revealed himself in the most subtle way, not in the fire or the earthquake but in the still small voice of calm. God's voice is there amongst all the others. But we can only hear it if we choose to listen and when we listen we believe.

We believe because God's voice has true power and authroity over all things. His voice guides. This does not necessarliy mean that he will instantly take away all the pain and suffering. David still had to ACTUALLY fight Goliath himself. Peter still had to physically climb out of the boat and do what seemed to be the most ridiculous thing in the world.

BUT THATS THE POINT! when we choose to listen and believe in Gods voice, we should no longer be afraid.

Psalm 23 says Yea though I walk to the valley of the shadow of death I shall fear no evil, for though art with me

Romans 8:37-39: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

and so "out of all the voices calling out to me..I will choose to listen and believe in the voice of truth"....

i hope i dont mess this song up in the offetory music...

I'm sure you will do great.
And your blog was 'a good un', as you said it would be. It was something I needed to hear. Thanks.
That verse from Romans is basically the most encouraging verse in the world.
