Chinese New Year!! This truly is the most wonderful time of the year!!
However, as a teacher in a English speaking school, teaching some of children some of the traditional greetings (in Chinese) can be an interesting experience...
The concerning word here is 'fook' which means good fortune or blessings!
Now most of these children still have trouble pronouncing everyday words, so introducing something so phonetically challenging is/was a risk...
I show them a flash card of the Chinese character....
A chorus of "fook, fook, fook fook fu......" ensues...
I am laughing my head off....

Wish I was in HK for the new year.... it's my year too! Oh well, maybe in another twelve years =)
