There is a lot of this going on in the world right now. Storms, Earthquakes, War, Famine, Disease.....At times it seems like the only thing that we are guaranteed in this world is brokenness.
What do we make of all this suffering? Do we shake out fists at God and blame Him? Do we ignore it because it's easier to deal with that way?
I have often said that I wish I was superman. This way, I could take the pain of this world on my shoulders and everything would be ok. I could fly into China and with one effort rescue all the people trapped in collapased buildings. I could go to Burma and rebuild all the houses in less than a day, then go to Africa and feed the starving.....
But in this world, there has already been superman. Not Brandon Roth or Christopher Reeves. His name is Jesus, and he can take all the pain away.
In light of understanding God's will behind all these disasters, people inevitably will blame Him. How could he allow such things to happen? There must be no God as God would never allow this.......
However, God has never promised us an easy life. He never promised a life free from pain, suffering, death, loss, disaster...all these things are an inevitable part of life. To resort to a cliche, we live in a fallen world, the fact that we are not in paradise now should be an obvious enough fact if you look throughout history.
But what God does promise is hope, joy and love in the midst of all this. He may not swoop down from the skies and wave a magic wand over everything. But God will work in this somehow. I pray for the people suffering all over the world. But Hope can always be found, God can always be relied upon.
